Bands can be set with a single large gem (a solitaire) or have smaller gems (accents), or a combination of one large gem combined with smaller ones. Solitaires are available in different shapes, for instance round, oval, square or heart-shaped. Stones with a strong color such as rubies or traditional deep blue sapphires are usually set with smaller diamonds round them.
